Workshop on Language

Language is often a topic of thought when considering disability. The purpose of this presentation was to consider the language we use when speaking about older people and people living with dementia and examine how language can inform our attitudes and behaviors.

Both aging and dementia are explored here as separate but connected topics. Not all people living with dementia will be older - consider those with early onset dementia. Some older people who are also living with dementia may experience double discrimination, on grounds of age and dementia.

This presentation was informed by resources from the Alzheimer Society of Ireland and Age & Opportunity Ireland’s AgeWise Training.
